Whilst I aplaud the new list in it's ability to put on attachments I would
err on the side of caution in this direction.
To send images to a group is a good thing to illustrate a point of interest
but it will not be too long before someone creates a virus or worm which
will penetrate the group.
As groups move fast from day to day, messages will pre empt virus update
downloads.
Attachment messages can of cause be deleted but this willl mean many members
deleting attachment messages which will reduce future input. A case in point
was recently put forward with a word based document.
I wonder how many members have considered leaving the list in light of this
new development.

Image files don't cause any problem, so far. The file extensions that *might* be a problem have become too numerous to remember, so copy the following list and put on a stickie or post it beside your monitor.

asp, .bas, .bat, .chm, .cmd, .com, .exe, .hlp, .hta, .inf, .isp, .js, .jse, .lnk, .msi, .mst, .pcd, .pif, .reg, .scr, .url, .vbe, .vbs, .ws, and .wsh.

Just don't open any files with those extensions, and you should be safe (for now).

Word macros are easily handled by the virus fix provided by Microsoft for such problems. You should not have Word on your machine without the patch installed. If you are too lazy to patch your copy of word, Include .doc and .rtf to the above list.
