Re: Computer Access vs. Paper



Peer review is not required and I suspect Brian did not mean to imply it is. The publication of the description of N. fuscotaeniatus in a hobbyist book, in order to scoop another publication in process, is another example. My own opinion is that these rules should be toughened, not weakened. I believe that peer reviewed journals should be required for valid species descriptions. Of course, I have yet to be asked by the ICZN for my opinion on the matter.

Unfortunately, I don't think peer review is required under the code. That's
why names published in aquarium magazines are nonetheless valid, unless there
has been a significant change since the folly of Cheirodon axelrodi published
in TFH was upheld as valid. - Bob Goldstein
