RE: A couple of questions

A quick, inexpensive way to handle copper in the water is to pack sphagnum
peat moss inside a net bag or a thin layer of filter floss inside a box
filter and bubble it inside your water storage/aging container for a few
days. Using a grade they might sell in small bags for house plants might
save you from cleaning the peat prior to use over normal gardening variety
where fertilizer might be added (like in some of the Jiffy peat pellets).
Peat bogs are notoriously deficient in copper because the humic/fulvic acid
copper(II) formation constant is so high (translation, it pretty much locks
up all the copper. Organic deposits are also good spots to find secondary
copper deposits because not only does the copper become complexed but it
tends to get reduced back to metallic copper.

Subject: A couple of questions

I can't believe that all of this discussion has reminded me to
renew my AKA membership. Who would guess?

I have a couple of actual killie care questions:

I have recently replaced my remaining galvanized pipes with copper.
What precautions do list members take with copper pipes? How
long should I run the water, etc.? Any comments?

Does anyone reuse those plastic containers that encase cd-r
spindles when one purchases cd-rs in quantities of 30, 50, etc.?
Looks like they might be handy for eggs and other uses, but I don't
know what kind of plastic they are made of and whether they are
toxic.
