RE: bent spines/was Winter 1967

The odds are that those soft plastics contain estrogen disrupting compounds (EDCs) that are effecting the development of the fish. Many EDCs are very toxic: eg. DDT.

As calcium signalling is very important in development any compound effecting calcium metabolism (i.e. estrogen, testosterone and EDCs) can alter development and has the potential to cause problems.

I doubt this is the problems with Epiplatys. They probably have a nutrional defeciency. I have the same problem with my lineatus. I am yet to solve it but all the data we have suggests the problem is nutrional. I suspect vitamin D rather than C as my fish are fed loads of spirulina flake.
