I thought that the reason for all this high powered light in reef tanks was
for photosynthesis in corals.
I'm interested in knowing something about the spectra of compact florescent
bulbs. I still have a few old incandescent fixtures round gathering dust
and I'm thinking maybe I can put them to use. GE hasn't replied to my
requests for info.

The 10,000K lamps for reefs are not very useful for plants. Some look
pretty white, but they tend to lack enough red light for really good
photosynthesis.
