Request for testers

Hello everyone,

I have to say that I think the discussions we have been having are valuable. I can't believe that the BOT haven't taken away some impressions from them. However, I think the arguments are starting to become repetitive and I detect a note of impatience, maybe even anger, creeping in. Maybe we need to take a breather from the discussion. If someone really feels they have something to say, by all means do so, but think about it. If you have already stated your position, maybe there is no point in restating it.

Now, on to something completely different. For some weeks the person who kindly hosts our list and I have been discussing switching our list from majordomo list server software to another called MailMan. The former is pretty arcane in terms of administration and the latter offers a number of advantages. Amongst those are much easier administration by the list admin (currently me), easier administration of email accounts for users, better bounce handling, and others. For example, users can switch themselves from individual message to digest format, suspend messages temporarily (while away etc.) and other things via a web interface. Messages that bounce are automatically unsubscribed according to rules set up by the list admin (e.g. if messages bounce more than 5 times, your address is put on a suspended list. You are automatically advised of such in periodic reminders. If nothing happens for a defined period, you are automatically unsubbed). All this would considerably decrease the burden on the list admin.

We have some concerns about switching killietalk cold, in case there are bugs in the system. Accordingly, we have set up a trial version, killietalk2. I would like about a dozen or so volunteers to subscribe to this list in order to test it. You can talk about anything you like, although I don't want the main business of the list to switch to there just yet. In other words, we will probably end up talking about the weather, and things like that. We just need help testing the system.

You can subscribe to this list by going to http://www.actwin.com/mailman/listinfo.cgi/killietalk2. Note that the address for messages will be killietalk2 at actwin_com temporarily. When everything is working and we switch completely the old address will still work. So, I look forward to telling some of you how hot it has been in Oregon.
