Re: Valve Source
Air pumps usually have a felt filter o/e to keep dust particles from
messing up the flap valves and downstream stuff, like needle valves and
airstones. It should be emphasized that any water flow-through system
needs a water filter, good for particulates down to about 5 microns, for
much the same reasons.
Ball valves, in plastic, still are to be preferred for water, because
metal can/will corrode, eventually, and clog up. The aperture of a ball
valve seems a wee bit less likely to get clogged than a needle valve. IDK
why. Plastic needle valves are not practical. One good tightening on
"turn-off" is usually all it takes to ruin them.

Both of the comments below are very useful, BUT Sandy's original
question was regarding an "air system", which I take to mean a way of
distributing "air" to a number of tanks, and not water. And for that,
Jehmco's AV1B have worked flawlessly in my system. That being said,
I'll save both of the comments below for whenever I need a water
distribution system.

I recommend the AWV1TB valve as listed on the Jehmco site. They are a
ball valve. I would avoid metal valves in a water distribution system
and I would avoid needle valves. The latter tend to block up too
quickly and require frequent adjustment.

Is there a better valve choice for this?

My current valve of choice is no valve at all but a controlled drip
emitter -
1 gph, for example. I just use the threaded barb connector at the
PVC tubing.
Easier to get equitable distribution and cheaper. See
