Hi all,
Just a quick note to give you my new phone and snail-mail addy. [See the
.sig, below]
I suddenly moved from Modesto to Bishop. 60 miles east, 4000 ft up, and
about 275 tough mountain miles by road. :-)
We lost Gus a few months ago, so Teena and I are enjoying a beautiful home
in the world's deepest valley. We see 14.000+ ft peaks to both east and
west of us, but are down in breathable air.
I found work at the local newspaper, composing ads and putting the paper
together on MACs. :-(
It isn't killifish purgatory, for I have the excellent breeder, Howard Wu,
here in town, and this is the retirement home for Phil Pister, long-time
biologist for CA F&G and leader of the Desert Fishes Council. [He has been
the champion for *Cypr. radiosus* for many years.] Maybe we should form a
club?
Moving is a PITA and working full-time cuts into my hobby hours, so it
will take me a while to get going again. Be patient, as I may be slow on
some of my BAKA and AKA duties.
I may be changing e-mail address, soon, as this one is on someone else's
account and not really under my control. I'll keep Richard Sexton
informed, so he probably can forward mail to wright at killi_net to me if
this one suddenly fails. I also have an e-mail box at whuntley at verizon_net
but am not reading it regularly until I can remove all the buggy software
that Verizon seems to want to force down your throat. Their DSL works
great, but their software is just pitiful.
Obligatory killy note: Water here is Sierra runoff over granite, so
similar to the miserable stuff Barry and I have been fighting, recently.
It is never over 50 ppm -- usually much less, and fairly alkaline out of
the tap. Weakly buffered, atmospheric CO2 can drop pH a lot while
standing. I'll have to keep using the "Equilibrium" (Seachem) when I get
to set up some tanks in the big sunroom that will become my new fishroom.
Good news is the creek running behind my back fence. I may have to set up
some ponds out in Teena's huge yard. :-) Speckled Dace should work as
mosquito control, no?
More later,
Wright
