Re: They ate them all!! :(

It appears we have a common thread here. If the adult gardneri are seen spawning in the gravel and the egg floats away or the parents eat the 6 week old fry one would figure there needs to be more food and needs to be more cover. What happen to separate containers for the fry? Time to spend some time on live food cultures, more baby brine shrimp and a whole lot more mops.

Killie raising isn't really that hard { ;-> it does take a little more forethought and maybe a little more protection and a couple more small tanks.

Chris,
get the adults into a 5 gallon tank with several mops in it and feed them BBS and some live worms. Keep their water fresh and with so much live food they don't go looking for the eggs. After three weeks, put them back in the big tank and feed the mops BBS. It will take another two to three weeks but better chances are better than winning the Power Ball - you will have fry in the small tank by the end of August.

Sherry, go buy some 2 gallon Criter Keepers at your local pet store for those fry. You don't have to have a filter, just an air stone for a few bubbles and keep the water fresh!

Males are 3 inches long, extremely bright, females a little over 2, extremely dull, lol. They are about 10 months old, all born within a few days of eachother. Still think they are too young? :)

Chris, Just be patient. Sounds like your killiefish might be to young to
breed. Give them some time.

Cheers!

My parent fish ATE all my 6 week old fry. My first batch and I don't have
a single fish to show for it. They were in a heavily planted tank and was
ignoring the little guys until yesterday. I guess they were waiting for a
plumper snack. *sigh*
