Re: need air-pump advice...which to get for my fish room

Hi John,

In my opinion, blowers are definitely outdated technology that should not be used. They are reasonably expensive, very noisy, and consume large amounts of electricity.

I have run over 100 tanks and several large reservoirs (one is 3 1/2 feet deep with a 6" diameter air stone) on a large diaphragm pump for over 4 years with no problems and the pump only uses 58 Watts of power! It is quieter than a single small "quiet brand" diaphragm pump as well. Having said that, I was so impressed with the linear pumps sold by JEHMCO, that is what I would buy if I ever needed to purchase another pump. Either one of these pumps will pay for themselves in a reasonable amount of time from energy savings and you do not have to listen to all that noise.

I am opinionated but not usually this opinionated - I really can not think of any reason to buy a blower instead of one of these other options! Well, unless you like noise or wasting large amounts of energy!!!

I have got a couple of Sweetwaters which are very quiet. I have the small one
22L? and the next up. As I said very quiet but I am not blown away (no pun
intended) by the output.

I talk to many people in my local aquarium society and I am getting "for large
output a blower is the only way to fly"

Comments??

DynaMaster2 Piston Air Pump is the only way to go. They are made by Super.

I have 2 - they are great. They throw 400 sq.inches of air a minute. If
you close all the gang valves and then open one you can hear the pressure it
built... its great - and very quiet for a piston driven pump.

Its worth a look - 65.00 new i think and VERY well worth it.
