RE: Fine Sand
Hi Tyrone Genade,
Thanks for your advice; I will try your method for my next spawn.
Currently the silica sand is in a breeding bowl. I will try to harvest the
eggs by stirring the sand and wait till most of the sand has settled before
pouring the water into a coffee filter. Hopefully the eggs, being lighter
will float and be collected in the coffee filter. Do you think it will
works??
Regards,
Sia Meng

Hello Gwee
Silica sand may be fine for spawning but will very inadequate for egg
incubation. The silica sand has very poor water retaining properties so your
eggs may desicate in storage and die. It would be much better to incubate
the eggs in peat or on damp paper towels or even water incubate (the
killietalk archives are full of ideas).
To harvest the eggs out of the sand stir it up and then swoop through the
water in a figure 8 motion and you should get most of the eggs (in theory, I
haven't tried it as I use coconut palm fibre to spawn my nothos).
Keep well and good luck
