Re: need air-pump advice...which to get for my fish room

Hi Ryan,
Definately go with a llinear piston pump. They are very economical, quiet
if mounted correctly, and very reliable.
I bought one from Aquatic Ecosystems over 20 years ago and it has run
essentially continuously since.. The one I got was Japanese made at the time
and was expensive I'm not sure where the ones they sell now are made.. I
bought a spare piston but have yet to replace the original. In terms of
sizing, I did some measurements awhile back that indicated about 600cc/min
to 700cc/min is the appropriate flow for box filters (no stone) in 10 gal
tanks.
1000cc/min roils the water excessively and simply is too much. There are
28.3 liters in a cubic foot. So, a pump such as the Model #LPH60 from Jemco
at 2.4CF/M @2psi will do 2.4CF/min x 28.3L/CF = 68L/min. At .7L/min per
outlet, that's 97 outlets. Note, they do way many more outlets than they are
rated for because they use inappropriately high flow rates in their
calculations.
In terms of economy, this 60W pump will cost you about $4.50/month to run
given 10 cents per killowatt hour. The corresponding Whitewater pump from
Aquatic Ecosystems is their 60W model which (from their curves) produces
2..2CF/M @ 2PSI. It seems to be considerably cheaper. It doesn't have a
cover and may not be as quiet. The one I have is mounted on a spring loaded
base which absorbs much of the vibration and is extremely quiet. I would
guess either one would be a good choice.
.............................good luck..........................Ron

Subject: need air-pump advice...which to get for my fish room

entire room off one pump. I'm considering a Whitewater Linear pump.
Anybody have experience with this pump. I like it because it's low priced.

stone. This would decrease my back pressure making it easier for the pump
to pump air to more tanks.
