my Luft pump is on an oxygen reactor for my saltwater tank. Just to raise the O.R.P. it would be no big deal if it would happen to fail.
I would imagine the surface area to water volume in a mud hole or ditch is much higher than the typical sized killi tank.
Also the biomass ratio of fish,ect. to water volume is most likey to be higher in an average size killi tank. More kritters needing O2 than in the wild in other words. 
  Sweetwater blower Russ, are your filters air driven?
