Re: Fundulus catenatus & allies: collecting points?



Shane, when you go to collect the catenatus, dont forget to scoop around in 
the substrate because the females bury themselves in the marl.  When 
cornered, you can feel the males hitting the seine like bullets. After you 
see the nice males and a few females, check around in the substrate to even 
up for pairs.  We did this at the Grimes/Anderson spot near southeastern Indy 
area.  I could'nt believe it when I saw these fish, larger than a railroad 
spike.  When I brought them home, I put them in a 30 gallon tank with some 
sand on the bottom.  I collected eggs from the sand by scooping with a second 
nature 4 inch fish net.  The eggs were rather large.  I could never seem to 
get them in mops. Maybe the ate them.
