RE: fruit fly media
I have a couple questions and comment on this. I had great success using this method (except I added a small amount of sugar as well, just something I read somewhere), but it did not work in anything but the small .5inch wide vials. In larger containers the medium would fall apart when turned upside down. I made a couple 2litre bottle using this method and had about 200 flies going at once, but no way to get them out easily. Anyone have any suggestions to keep the medium stuck down? Or a good way to remove the flies without turning the bottle upside down?Chris

good results. Add a pinch of yeast, wet with water mixed with a couple of
drops of acriflavine to prevent fungus. Make sure the medium is wet
throughout without
becoming mushy, or the flies will drown. Add something to the jar to allow
them a dry area to walk, I stick 3 popsicle sticks in the medium.

A couple of months ago there was a string of emails in regards to various
recipes for flightless fruitfly media. I've long since deleted those emails
but now I could use that info. If there's anyone listening who has a good
recipe please email me the instructions. Thanks.
