I know I am the exception to the rule, but I have subscribed to AOL for
almost 10 years. Why, you may ask? Well, I have tried many others -- free or
lower cost and in every case the service was very inferior to AOL, despite
AOL's annoying habits, they are pretty reliable. I have reduced the AOL cost
by providing my own cable modem access which lowers the monthly fee by half
and eliminates the need for a second phone line and also allows the use of
better browsers and, of course, faster access. As a consequence my e-mail
address has stayed the same -- a convenience to my friends, not necessarily
to me.
