Re: 42% don't and won't use the Internet!SPAM

Hello,

It is interesting how we tend to fixate on people who "can not afford a
computer", instead of on people who do not feel the need for a computer
and thus do not buy/use one. Several of my friends/acquaintances are in
that category.

A neighbor across the street inherited a computer from his son, kept it
on his desk for a while, then took it apart and stored it in a closet.
Others have a computer, but use it only as a word processor, despite my
urging to "connect". With them it is definitely NOT the expense!

It is NOT helpful to point out that one can pick up an older computer
"for $100 or so". To do that, you have to have substantial knowledge on
how to connect it and make it work, or even to know whether what you
bought is everything that you need to make it work!

As to "use a computer in a library" -- even I, who is computer
semi-literate, would NOT know how to do that without a tutorial from the
librarian. Not only is the librarian constantly busy but, for me, it
would be embarrassing to ask!

I think that we just have to get used to the idea, that not all people
want to have the latest car, sound system, Internet connectivity, or
whatever. Whether AKA wants to accommodate them -- that is another
question!

Best,

George
