I don't know about the 42% in the USA, but as a school teacher, I'd say
the numbers are a still high from what I observe with my students in
Canada. Home internet access seems (as is logical with the cost)
connected to social class. I'd say 80% of the kids I teach from the
prosperous suburbs have the net at home, while in the inner city school
I sometimes work in, maybe 25% have it. A computer is still a luxury
appliance in many homes. You can get an old one cheap if you have
knowledge of computers, but net access etc. adds up.
Three years ago, maybe 35% of my 17 year old students said they hated
the net and wouldn't go on it - now, maybe 2% say this for the first two
weeks they have access at school. Then they run with it.
For the AKA or other clubs, fishkeeping is a hobby that demands
disposable income, therefore we're more likely to see a higher rate of
computer ownership in fish clubs than in society in general. So the 42%
wouldn't be likely to apply to the killie hobby.
