I've just had 3 australes hatch today, 2 still waiting to join in the
festivities, but one has its entire tail sticking out of the egg while the
body is still in the egg. Is it stuck? Do I need to do anything to help it
out or will it come off on its own in the next day or so?
Is this known to happen from time to time?

This happened to me a number of times with Gularis fry, as well as other
water-incubated fundulopanchax and aphyosemion. I solved it by cutting my
tap water (TDS 160-180ppm) with deionized water 50/50 to reduce the mineral
content that I suspected was "hardening" the egg membrane. It seemed to work
and has become my standard incubation mix for all killies except for
Aphanius, which are adapted to harder water.
