RE: food for daphnia
Sterile water is for maintaining a unialgal cluture for lab purposes. We
don't care what species grows there. The water should be dechlorinated.
Note! on daphnia they suggest more frequent water changes.

I notice that they recommend sterile water to start a culture. No one in
this
discussion thread has suggested that as a necessity. Could that be the
beginning of my problem? I use either fresh, dechlorinated tap water or the
overflow from my water changing system for a small group of tanks.
