I have been very happy with my first beginner killie which I got almost 2 years ago. Fundulopanchax Scheeli. Colorful, great spawning behavior and a delight to own. I don't pick eggs, they live in planted tanks and many fry survive. The only downside is that if 2 males are in the tank, the "lesser" one really gets beat up. I have heard that having 3 solves that. I'm in the process of getting rid of a lot of fish and tanks, but this is one species I'm keeping, I just really enjoy them.
The only care requirement that I can see is frequent water changes, they thrive on that. Stop doing it, and fry stop appearing.
