Re: Cauveti & christyi

Hi Tim!

Among others, you definately want to pick the brain of Peter Tirbak! Maybe
better yet, go to Hawaii and interview him there. ;)

Levity aside, he has been and continues to be a great chronicler of the
christyi and cognatum imports to the US. Certainly Roger's book and Lazara's
KMI would offer leads too. (So might the AKA video-tapes of Tirbak programs.
Does anybody have a copy of his old '70s slide-tape program of
christy/cognatum?)

What we though of as christyi in the '70s was a version of what we call
schioetzi today. Lazara's work also mentions that our christyi (at least is
part) was our misnamed schioetzi even in the '60s.

That was one of my first experiences with having to get used to a different
name for a favorite killifish. As big a pain in the neck as that was, the
experience was useful. After such a name change, one becomes much more
tolerant of others struggling to remember what their killies are currently
being called.

All the best!

Scott
