Re: Killis in ponds (was bullfrogs)
This is the main reason I some-what gave up on my pond. Raccoons have long claws, sharp teeth, and love water. As for Bullfrogs and other such aquatic creatures eating fish. Don't they somewhat resemble a clump of weeds or an algae covered rock? They sit at the bottom waiting for a fish to come by, then once the fish is within range, they strike, very quickly, just like snakes. Frogs eat flies and other such flying insects too. I would bet that the flying insects are much harder to catch than fish, being smaller, quicker to change direction, and a bit less predictable, but they sit and wait for them to get close, and strike. It's no amazing feet, they have more patience than humans, lol. I would think the fish would be ok if they were somewhat off of the ground a ways. Even if the raccoons can still get in, they would not dive into something that they would have a fear of not being able to get back out (ie, a 3 or 4 foot drop or something), right?

Interesting. I thought that bullfrogs would have trouble catching fish,
that way. Around here, I think the racoons, skunks and civet cats are more
likely culprits. They go right through plastic mesh without even slowing
down, too.
