ARK March Cactus - Killie - Cook-Out
Next Saturday, March 8th, Arizona Rivulin Keepers (ARK) will host their
annual Cactus - Killie - Cook-Out. Attend a Cactus League (Spring Training)
MLB game of your choice and at your cost, and then come to a great killifish
meeting.
The Cactus - Killie - Cook-Out will be at Bill Edward's house (1048 E Frost
Dr, Tempe). He lives right off the I-60 freeway and Rural Road. Directions
are on the ARK website (http://ark.killi.net). The starting time is 5:00
PM. The meeting is free and the public is invited, however, if you plan to
attend, please RSVP to Allan Semeit by e-mail (azkillie at yahoo_com) or by
phone (480-513-0729). We want to make sure there is plenty of food for
everyone!
The event will start off with a barbecue dinner. ARK will be providing the
hamburger, hot dogs, and beverages. Local attendees are being asked to
bring a sidedish or snacks.
The program will be "The Killifish of Cameroon" by Monty Lehmann. After the
special Kathetys issue of JAKA in September/December 2001, Monty has
acquired a reputation as "Mr. Elberti/Bualanum" and we look forward to his
insights toward these and other Cameroonian killies. Rumor has it that
Monty has some fantastic slides that he will be sharing.
The Cactus - Killie - Cook-Out is being sponsored by MARINELAND LABORATORIES
and ARIZONA AQUATIC GARDENS. They are providing some nice raffle prizes and
we appreciate their support. The ARK website has links to these companies
and we encourage you to view these.
The auction for the March event should be super! Our speaker has stated
that he will be bringing in some rare and unusual killies. We anticipate
shipments from Hawaii, the Southern California Killi Club, and possibly
others. There should be an especially nice selection of fishes, aquatic
plants, and live foods cultures for you to bid on.
As a final note, Phoenix is fairly cool in March (for Phoenix). Highs are
usually in the 70s, but nights drop down into the 50s and occasionally the
40s, so you should bring something warm like a pair of Levis to wear in the
evenings.
If you can attend, we would love to meet you and greet you.
