Re: eliminating Hydra, Heximita, Velvet, Ick and Glugea

HI Gary!

I don't use meds much at all, but do get a good number of wild caught fish
for my tanks. I have always used metranidazole while the fish are in my Q
tank to make sure they are free from parasites before adding them to the
home tank.

I recently brought home a discus from the shop because he was doing so
poorly. He was so very thin, not eating etc, used two doses of metranidazole
on him over the course of a week, and he is now attacking food with gusto,
even flake food! I will be adding flubendazole to my bag of tricks as well
on the advice of many expert discus keepers who use both drugs to make
absolutely sure their fish are free from parasites and protozoal
infestations before allowing them into tanks with established fish.

Following this routine has cut down drastically on the number of problems
I've experienced in my display tanks, especially as most of the fish I
collect are not tank raised.

Karen
