Re: eliminating Hydra, Heximita, Velvet, Ick and Glugea
Hi All, I thought that I would chime in on the use of meds. It may be
possible that Gary"s fish are suffering from gill parasites, or blood
flagellets. Alot of your experiences seem to be with the hydra, and
preventative treatments for newly arriving fish. Once the outward signs show
up, there is not much that will work on gill parasites and blood flagellets.
Once the gills have been damaged to the extent that the fish is hollowing or
gets fin rot in the exremeties, the med will often exacerbate the problem by
destroying gill tissue even faster. If Gary's fish had blood flagellets, he
would have been better off letting live brine shrimp soak up the med after
being rinsed in freshwater. When I was in the commercial end of the
business. I used to use a similair med called, flagyl. Metronidazole was the
actual name. I always saved Lebaco's wild cardinals with the stuff. It almost
always worked on Dolphin's stuff from Asia wich was always nasty by the time
it got to Columbus,Ohio. Sometimes piperizine will clean out a fish. Another
med used with food. Maybe Gary's fish that are doing well may have some of
the early symptoms. So, I ask: What were the fish behaving like before you
treated them and what are your other fish doing now? Mark Delraso
