Re: CO2 systems
Michiko, the aquarium store that I used to work at no longer sells the Dupla
system. It may be available only in Germany. However, there is a store close
to where I live in Columbus, Ohio that has the same type of system. I will
get the info for you. I dont know if Dupla is being distributed here anymore
since so many other companies have developed there own. The aquarium store
that I used to work at also may have such a system. The Dupla products were
very expensive at the time, so the usual competion that arose made them a
little less expensive. Most of these systems include mercury vapor lights or
quartz halogen, some sort of trickle filter, CO2 bottle and CO2 diffuser(
small vial filled with some sort of ceramic material), a CO2 indicator, and
some type of fertilizer that is put in under the layer of gravel, usually
laterite clay. All of these aquariums are open top-no canopy because the
heavy duty lamps will heat the water, but many local aquarist will use
several flourescent bulbs in the correct wavelengths to promote plant growth.
So, there may be four different types of bulbs as in reef tanks. It still
heats the tank, but it works if you have jumping fish. The system that I
had, before we had baby boys yanking at hoses behind the tank stand, had congo
tetras, synodontis angelicus, debauwie cats, otocinclus, epiplatys
fasciolatus, aphyosemion striatum as the fish population. The plants, which
were growing out of the tank were anubius nana in the foreground, aubius
barteri, bolbitis, tiger lotus, ammania senengalis, and crinum. I wish I
didnt have to take that tank down. It was great when we had killie meetings
at my house and the killies in the tank never jumped. They must have felt
secure. Anyway, I'll try to muster some of that info for you from those
stores that I mentioned and will get back with you. Mark Delraso, Columbus,
Ohio
