Betta Barracks (Was Plastic Boxes)

Currently in the works for my bettas is a very simple system of a 28 gallon 
rubbermaid container with a spongefilter and heater.  In this container will 
be a home-made 35 compartment barracks for seperating the bettas.  It's made 
of 18x24" lucite, adhered together with 100% silicone.  The compartments are 
about 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 3".  The bottom is drilled to allow flow-through.  
The chambers themselves are not bonded together, and can be completely 
removed for cleaning.  I do water changes in the rubbermaid container just 
like an aquarium.  This works well for me as I only have one set of bettas 
that need to be seperated at a time.  I don't spawn more bettas until I 
seperate the last generation.  A relatively cheap system to set up, the 
heater being the most expensive component.  $30 for heater, $12 rubbermaid, 
$5 spongefilter, and $10-$15 worth of 18x24" lucite.  (3 sheets.)  I can 
send pictures when I have it running again in a couple days.

Now, since we're on the topic of Bettas... anyone spawn B. imbellis?  I'm

Hi Joel, I am also interested in a CHEAP betta barracks system (Utilizing
the beanie boxes as well) if you have any info feel free to e-mail me with

inexpensive filter! It's the one I would build! Heating is cheap as well I
guess it's just that damn UV sterilizer that is expensive! A flow-thru for
killie fry would be awesome too Hmm...
