Re: Chromapyosemion
Mark, I hope I say this correctly, but there is a spectacular Dr. Terciera
photo that he made as an AKA index around 1977. We do not have an index
program anymore, but if you have a nearby associate in your area, maybe he or
she can show you the fish. Kordon reprinted these indices and we use to sell
them through the publications commitee. The fish,as indicated in the index,
is only "known from waters near the town of Meanja in southern Cameroons
where it was first collected by Peter Winter in 1975" The photographer was
Dr.Anthony Terciera and the indexer was Fred Kraus and Dr. Terciera 1977. If
you find this index, there are several other references listed.
Unfortuneately, I have only Scheel,Jorgen. Rivulins of the Old World. TFH
Publications, Jersey City, NJ, 1968, pp 116-127. This fish has a gold
posterior that grades into a pale, pastel purple. The unpaired fins are
primarily green. There are streaks of dark red in the anal, which also has
yellow tips. The dorsal has a maroon color that is between the fin rays over
green, then terminates with a yellow tip. What a fish and what a photograph.
Anyway, I appreciate the correspondence. If this fish was common, I would
still have it as long as I could keep it going. Can you say pastel? Nature is
quite the artist. Mark Delraso
