Re: Breeding wild-extinct species (was Re: That lazy BOT (was Re: decentwar))

Hi everyone, I just wanted to remind us that a population does'nt always have
to be reintroduced to it's exact location from which it was extirpated. There
are refugium habitats that are currently saving some of our beloved fish as
we write. In addition to that, some of the annual fish from South America
have moving habitats. That is to say, sometimes the pool moves down stream of
the net flow. My point is that we cannot remanufacture nature back to it's
original pristine condition, but we sure can make an attempt when the
opportunity arises. Maybe we will eventually learn how. This thought came to
mind when reading some of the well-founded opinions out there and it reminded
me of a story someone from the Desert Fish Council told me as he looked in
the bucket that had about a dozen Cyprinodon radiosus left. That was it. The
whole population. They had to try to save them atleast as long as it would
take for the habitat to fill up again. Mark Delraso
