I hope he doesn't. Just a waste of softener salt to no good purpose.

Run straight off the tap, and the waste water can be used for the 
garden. Otherwise it kills plants, quick.

I hope he does. Most folks get in bad trouble by mixing water with no 
way to check for possible osmotic shock (sudden tds changes). Mine gets 
used several times a day, when I'm changing water or bagging fish.
