Re: How cold is too cold?
Hi Andrew,
My basement is the same temp as yours right now. I get eggs from my gardneri every day and their tanks are on the bottom of the rack. My guentheri give me eggs but only a few. The last bag I hatched out gave me 12 fry. When they spawn during the summer months (70 - 72 F in the basement) I get 50 - 100 or more from a weeks spawn.
Just assume the fry will grow slower and produce less eggs during the cold months. And look at the bright side, the fish will live longer in cooler water.
Take care,
Joe in St. Louis (AKA 5414)
