Nothobranchius virgatus is not a new Notho as such (it was described by
Chambers in 1984) although the Fula A Zarga population represents a new
population that has been in the hobby, after a fashion, since 1998.

It has seen very limited distribution in the hobby because the individual
who first acquired it has distributed it to a limited number of hobbyists
only with strict instructions that they were not to distribute it to anyone
else. No reason for this conditional release has, apparently, been given.
