Re: breeder award revision?

As I see it, there are two roads to long term maintanence.
First, the "I just love that fish and will never give up keeping it" mode
which can be restrictive if you try it with every fish you have had,
and second, "spread it around enough so at least you can find it again"
method. Some combination of these two is usually necessary unless you have
an unlimited amount of time, money and tanks.

I am just not into the "breed it, get points and dump it mentality", however
if spread around to others who "may keep it long term" it can be of help to
maintanence. At least if all 10 offspring now required for KAP points are
distributed, it is at least another generation for someone to learn to love.

As for shows, it would be a little more productive to give at least some
points if not prizes for fish that are at least young enough to adapt and be
productive if auctioned. I have rarely seen a show fish that I would buy
actually win any prizes-too small, too young etc. If the show idea is to
just demonstrate what is possible with the fish, maybe the current judging
system is fine though.
