Old books
Hi Tim,
You will notice a wonderful thing about Innes' great book. He gets A.
calliurum right in the 1930's. He shows an australe type fish. Starting in
the late 50's, calliurum would be used for the early importations of gardneri
Akure. The authors in the 50's and 60's ignored (forgot?) Innes' photograph
and correct description.
Innes also got the true montezumae/nezahualcoyotl swordtail mix up right,
and, again, he was almost alone. Like with calliurum, the Holly, Rachow and
Meinken 12 volume "Aquarium Fish in Words and Pictures" also got it right at
the time. In later years, other hobby authors ignored Innes on this point too.
His book has some real gold in it.
Robert
