Yes, the fact that fish and eggs die makes the statistical design approach
chancy at best. In my experiences, the polymers did not die or disappear so
all data that was generated resulted in a response. Almost all new technology
required scouting experiments to establish criteria and then follow up to
establish quantitative effects. Nevertheless, someone with a couple years to
work on this in a controlled manner could develop some useful data. Not me, I
retired from that kind of intensive study to 'relaxed' killifish keeping.
Besides, if we always got a few more females than males, there be no
challenges or lonely hearts lists.
