Re: snails v pupfish

I recently have observed an effect which may not be real over time, but
certainly dramatic in this observation. Normally after the first day or so
that a spawn hatches I put in some Java Moss and snails. I believe this helps
provide a constant food source and some cleanup action for excess food. A
couple weeks ago I had some eggs hatch and instead of pond or Ramshorn snails
I used Malaysian livebearing snails because they were in the Java moss that I
collected. The results were that those containers that had the Malaysian
snails produced fry that were 3 times or more the size of those without the
Malaysian snails. This was observed in several different species and in
several different containers with the same species. I will continue to use
these snails in comparison with the others in the future and see how it goes.
Anyone else seen anything like this effect?
