Re: Need a few suggestions

Hello,

Many thanks to all for your excellent suggestions. I found that turning the room
light on first, even during the day, helped. I also took the hood light partly
off the tank when I first turn the light on...again, this cut down on the
suddenness of the transition, and kept the panic down. I'm now working on
associating the light being on with food, a good thing for them.
I could not put them in partial sun, since the room windows don't allow that and
this area sees about as much sun as Seattle Wa. No offense to Seattle, but this
area is overcast about 80% of the time, it seems.
I want to keep the tank bare because I'm somewhat overfeeding in an effort to
get the best growth rate. I'ts easier to clean a bare tank. Does anyone have any
comments on this??
I'm checking my LFS for more Java fern and floating plants, since I intend to
keep the hood light on a lot more in the future.
I do have another question, though. Does anyone know how the plants and/or fish
would be affected by UV light?? Would it harm or help them? Would the plants
grow with UV as a light source? I'm kinda wondering if the fish would "glow in
the dark," so to speak.
Again thanks!

Al>
