I don't think the fish see their own reflection on the bottom.
We are looking through a front glass, then see the reflection  
on the bottom glass when it is bare. The fish is inside the tank.
If you view from the top, that reflection does not appear.
The mirror effect is from viewing through 2 pieces of glass.
A fish may well get scarred with open spaces and square corners.
Aquarist so often enjoy Kissing Gouramis kising their own reflection
in the sides of the tank. All they see is glass and beyound.
