Our Duckweed never goes away completly from winter.  
The Savinia stays too. We don't get as cold as most areas.
My Gardenias made it through last winter. We didn't get
lower than about 28f, and only for a few hours. Salvinia may
perish at about 24f, but you could cover some wuth clear
plastic, the water below may protect it. Also water from a  
hose is a good way to warm a cold tub when necessary.
Duckweed in Oregon us kind of a pest and never goes away.
