Hi Frank, Nevin here in St. Louis. Your observation about the australe 
swimming on the surface of your outdoor pond is interesting and contrary to 
what you see in nature. In 2001 I collected some australes in Gabon just 
north of Libreville in a lowland gallery forest. In nature you never see the 
killies on the surface or anywhere else; they are always hiding under leaves 
or something else, but always hiding and not visible. Perhaps our decades of 
selective breeding has selected out the fear of predators lurking and waiting 
to nail them from above. Just an interesting observation on your part. Nevin
