RE: Caution, Virus problem out there in killieland

It looks like the mystery is solved. The virus is not only picking up
recipient addresses from someone's pc it is also picking up return addresses
from that pc. Thereby it masks its source. Very Cool? I just got a virus
message from sstanfield at uemedia_com telling me that a virus came from my pc
and went to luckner at digitaltelevision_com. I have never had any
communication from or with either address. ****If anyone knows this person
or people It is most likely being sent from your computer.*** It most likely
mined our addresses from your inbox.

Peace,

~RJ~

Subject: Caution, Virus problem out there in killieland

Hi All;
Someone has the klez virus in their computer and it has sent email to two
people who are obviously killie guys. One to Mach Fukada in Hawaii and one
to Ron Anderson in Rhode Island. The email was labeled as if it came from
me-Bill Shenefelt but it was not from my computer and did not come from me.
.There is a vaieity of the Kelz virus that "spoofs" an email address it
finds in the infected computer and sends email to others in the same address
book, but from the spoofed address, not from the computer owners address..
First it came to Mach with a sender email address wshenefelt at email_msn.com
that has not existed since I dropped MSN last year in October. The second
to Ron came from my current address wshenefelt at att_net , but I did not even
have him in my address book so it did not come from my computer either. I
have, and keep up to date, the latest Norton Antivirus which has been able
to detect this species of virus sinct last October. My Norton is set to
scan all my outgoing mail for viruses. This is good to do just in case
something gets in before the virus definition is updated to catch it. You
then can catch it if it tries to send itself out before your next whole
computer sancis performed with the new difinitions.
If you get something which seems to have come from me, do not open it but
please send me an email to let me konw. I have contacted MSN and am going
to contact amy current provider ATT to see if the can help track the
infected computer. Meanwhile be careful out there.
Bill Shenefelt
