Re: Light Cycle Experiments?
Hi Karl,
Let me make this clear. The experience I described was not mine. It was
that of Fred Behrmann who is a long time killi breeder. He raises thousands
of killies annually. His experience was that of lack of spawns from his
annuals. He attributed it to TOO SHORT a period of daily lighting. His fish
room has quite intense fluorescent lighting (water sprite grows like a weed)
Since he has upwards of 250 tanks, he probably has well over 1000W of
fluoresent lighting. In trying to cut down on his electric bill, he cut way
back on the daily lighting duration from perhaps 12 hours to perhaps 5
(check with Fred....these are my guesses) In the absence of fluorescent
lighting, his fish room is pitch black. His theory was that the short
duration of light was the cause for the lack of egg production from his
annuals. I will contact him to get the details and report back here.
