Interesting point, here.
Besides sterilizing the fish after months of light that has *no* daily
fluctuation, higher plants do need a somewhat dark period where they
change to respiration from photosynthesis and do most of their actual
growing. If not given that daily change, lower plant forms, like algae,
tend to take over.
Just one of those things I learned the hard way,
