Authorization
I need to explain a new procedure that has been invoked for subscribing to
killietalk. If you know anyone that is having problems you can explain
this, or refer them to me.
Some weeks ago I started getting a rash of complaints from people who had
been subscribed to killietalk without their knowledge and against their
will. I don't know who did this, but I think it is something I have to
guard against. Therefore I asked the list server admin to institute an
authorization procedure, which works like this.
If you try to sub to killietalk you will get an email explaining that you
have to reply with a particular authorization string in the body of the
message. You can simply cut and past that into a message to
majordomo at aka_org. You will then be subscribed. Apparently most people
figure this out,as I see new subscribers appearing on a regular basis.
However, I have looked at the message one gets and can see ways that it
could be clarified. I will take that up with the list server admin to see
if we can't improve upon it.
I regret any inconvenience but I can't allow e-vandals to subscribe people
without their authority.
