Re: Fruit Fly Bottles
I use 1 pint mason jars for canning that I buy by the dozen (boxed) from the local supermarket. I soak a few days then wash under pressure with the garden hose before reusing them. I cover the wide mouths with mosquito netting and rubber bands. It's time consuming, but I need to do this to keep the dart frogs going. I used to put old used culture from fly jars and microworms into my daphniae to feed them, but I think it polluted more than nourished, so I quit. Nothing beats green water, and today as a backup I use jars of liquidy strained carrots or sweet potatoes. - Bob G.
