Paramecium - Infusoria
I bought a culture of paramecium some time back. I used it to feed some
lampeye fry.
Somehow the genie got out of the bottle. Although for the life of me I do
not recall spreading this menace about my fish room a few of my tanks became
cloudy. Imagine my surprise when I noticed that the cloudy water was
actually countless little white specs moving under their own power.
Now don't misunderstand, they do not actually harm the fish, nor are they
always about, but they have a way of reappearing over and over again. And if
you have never seen it, a paramecium bloom can actually make you tank milky
white.
If you do not need these creatures you are way better off keeping them out
of your fish room. Once they get into the works there may be no way to get
rid of them.
I am relatively convinced that the only way I will ever get rid of these
vermin is to raise fry that need them. Everyone knows that even the best,
most durable and well maintained culture will crash the day before they are
needed.
Peace,
~RJ~
