Re; fluval 1

A great alternative for the anemic Fluval is the Catalina
1400 Powerhead attached to the Catalina Bio Sponge Filter.
The total package should be about $20. Much less with an anemic
Powerhead. It comes with a good quality harder sponge that holds
more debris and compresses less. The heavy base is removable if
you desire. It can be used as the Marineland 660R as a 'reverse-flow'
unit. Only this is better and takes up less space. Their Powerheads
all the way down to the 200 fit. Their impellars are cheap and easy to
obtain. Currently they cost $3. If one desires less water movement.
it is easy to attach a sponge over the outlet. Any sponge works well
there as there is no compression and far less debris accumulation.
The same sponge works well as a pre-filter for an outside filter. Fry
and food are not turned to a thin gravy, the power unit is protected,
and filter cartridges are changed less often.
