Now this is a loaded question, i've had pairs of striatums that laid
tons of eggs and some that werent as prolific, also as for comparing
them to Gardneris.. depends on what type of Gardneri you are talking
about, Akure and N'sukka always did very well for me, i had problems
with a few other types, such as Biassa, Mamfense...
just to name a few.
Good water quality, good varied diet with live foods as a main staple,
will help most species to be more prolific then if you dont take care of
things properly.
Now as for Striatum being hardy fish, yes, i have found them to be
so.... was even able to raise a tank full of fry on flake food and tetra
bits once....
