That's a pretty high pH especially considering the magnesium and calcium 
are very low (soft water).  I would suspect that what's giving you the 
problems is either the high pH or the cation that accompanies  the 
anion.  It might be worthwhile to see if you get a mineral analysis of you 
water.  The county health agency does it here for free if you have a well.
